This issue is one of the most annoying thing for Logitech Mouse, especially if your computer runs MacOS. This has been around for many years, yet they still don’t fix it permanently. There are some variations of this problem, but in this post, I am going to show you one variation that is the most annoying one.
When you have any Logitech devices connected to your laptop or Mac, you most likely installed Logitech Options to configure the device in your computer. In Logitech Options, your settings are stored and activated every time your devices are connected to your Mac. This is the part that usually brings problems. Your settings like scroll direction, buttons configurations, pointer speed, and flow sometimes doesn’t work intermittently. In other words, Logitech Options doesn’t work at all, even though it says that your device is active and detected. When you try it again sometimes later, it magically works again.
However this is very annoying for power users like you and me. This problem usually appears when the device or mouse is idle for several minutes. If you have this very same problem, then this post is for you. There are actually a lot of similar post like this out there, but none are exactly this problem.
So here are some real solutions that works for that particular problem. Take note that this solutions are for those who have paired the device earlier, and the device have worked very well for some times in the past.
1. Make Sure the Mouse is Still Detected on Logi Options
To do this, open Logi Options application, then check the bluetooth connection on the bottom of the window. Make sure the bluetooth is connected and turned blue.
2. Turn Off and On Your Logitech Device
Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one. When you are busy fixing your Logitech Options not working properly, try turning your mouse off. When you turn it on again, it will pair up again. Sometimes this fixes the problem completely, because the new pairing process kind of resets the Logi Options configurations. This is one of my favourite fix, because even though it is not a permanent fix, this is very fast and quite reliable. But we have to admit that this solution doesn’t always work all the time. If so, then try solution number 2.
3. Force Quit Logi Options
This solution is a little bit more advanced than the previous one, but this is more effective. From your MacOS, open Activity Monitor. You can access this from app launcher or search it on spotlight (Cmd + Space).
Search for logi options daemon on the top right search box.
Click on Logi Options Daemon on the search result, and hit the X or Stop button on top of the window. A confirmation dialog will show up. You need to click Force Quit. This is very safe since Logi Options Daemon will always start again automatically after you try to force quit it.
After quitting Logi Options Daemon, the process will disappear from Activity Monitor for a few seconds. Wait for it to show up again. When it shows up, try checking if your mouse is working properly. This solution works around 70% of the time. If it doesn’t you should try the next solution.
4. Sleep and Wake
One of the main advantage of MacOS is the ability to sleep and wake very quickly without closing any apps, especially if you have Macs with the M1 chips. Simply hit the Apple logo on the top left of your device, then click Sleep.
When it sleeps, you can immediately wake it up again like you always do. This waking process usually resets the Logi Options pairing process and make your mouse working again.
5. Download and Install Logi Options +
Logi Options+ is the next-gen app that lets you manage and customize your supported mice and supported keyboards. Download the application from the official website here. This is a more stable application that lets you manage your mouse and keyboards with less problem than the previous version. When you install Logi Options+, your old Logi Options will be ignored by MacOS. You can either uninstall the old one or just ignore it, since your computer will always detect the newer Logi Options+.
